Godzilla: Save the Earth is a combat video game launched in 2004 for the PlayStation 2. It marked the first Godzilla game to be available on both the PlayStation 2 and Xbox platforms. Drawing from characters and scenarios in the Godzilla movie series, it serves as a follow-up to Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, which came out for the GameCube and Xbox in 2002. Godzilla: Save the Earth is succeeded by Godzilla: Unleashed in 2007, released for the PlayStation 2 and Wii.
Save the Earth is set two years after Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee. The plot centers around humanity obtaining Godzilla's DNA, referred to in the game as "G-Cells." The Vortaak discover this and return to Earth once more, commanding a massive army of creatures, including their ultimate weapon: SpaceGodzilla. Players battle through various locations, facing off against the Vortaak's controlled monsters. In the final cut-scene, Godzilla engages SpaceGodzilla in a decisive showdown. Godzilla destroys SpaceGodzilla's shoulder crystals, triggering the formation of a black hole. SpaceGodzilla is pulled into the void and seemingly perishes, prompting the Vortaak to withdraw. Godzilla roars triumphantly, having once again saved the Earth.
