Storyline
The game begins with Kat, an amnesiac, awakening in Hekseville, a floating city orbiting the World Pillar, a massive structure that stretches from the clouds to the ground. She is joined by Dusty, a mysterious feline who soon reveals the ability to alter gravity’s effects on her, allowing her to assist in battling Nevi—monsters born from gravity storms. During a rescue mission to save a boy caught in a storm, Kat meets Syd, a police officer who becomes a close ally and reveals that individuals with her abilities are known as "Shifters" in Hekseville. As she aids the city’s people, she faces Raven, another Shifter who views her as a threat. Kat becomes involved in efforts to capture Alias, a criminal connected to the Nevi, ultimately defeating him by sending him into a garbage compactor where he perishes. Meanwhile, she works with Gade, a man claiming to be a "Creator," to repair parts of Hekseville lost to spatial rifts. Despite Raven's interference, Kat manages to restore the entire city, and Raven is seemingly killed in their final confrontation. Her heroics earn her the title "Gravity Queen." After Alias is defeated and the last missing section of Hekseville is recovered, Kat is offered a military position under Commander Yuri Gerneaux, but she declines. Later, Kat meets a woman who accidentally drops a letter from her late boyfriend over the edge of Hekseville. To retrieve it, Kat descends the World Pillar, a colossal column supporting the city. As she travels downward, her Shifter abilities begin to fade, and she is once again confronted by Raven. They are attacked by Nushi, a massive Nevi, and Kat awakens in Boutoume, a city beneath the Pillar, where a group of children is led by Zaza. Kat and Raven help defend the children from Nushi, but they discover that the dark sea beneath Boutoume is rising. One of the children, Cyanea, later approaches Kat in a trance, possessed by a being known as a Dream Guardian. She reveals herself as the world’s Creator through her dreams and sends Kat into a vision where she learns of her origins in a higher part of the World Pillar, where she once held a powerful role and endured a heavy burden. With some of her lost power restored, Kat activates the Ark, a vessel capable of returning everyone to Hekseville. As the Ark launches after Nushi is repelled, Kat learns that Raven was once one of the children trapped in Boutoume and had been instructed by Hekseville’s alderman D'nelica not to rescue them. During the ascent, Kat succumbs to exhaustion and is separated from the Ark. She continues her journey up the World Pillar, eventually receiving the letter from her boyfriend’s ghost. Upon returning to Hekseville, she discovers a year has passed due to the time distortions in the lower regions. The city is under martial law due to constant Nevi attacks, and D'nelica has become mayor. Kat faces Nushi one final time before it is destroyed by Yunica, an enhanced military operative. Syd has joined the military after the civilian police were absorbed into it. Kat is once again offered a military role, but she refuses. A scientist later asks for her help in studying the Nevi, but it's a scheme to uncover the secrets of her Shifter abilities. After experiencing a nightmare about Alias, Kat wakes to find Cyanea has returned, though Raven and the other children are still missing. At a rally with Gabe and Syd, where D'nelica unveils the Nevi-destroying weapon Sea Anemone, Kat is attacked and captured by Yunica along with Dusty. As Syd tries to rescue her, the Sea Anemone—built with a Nevi core as part of D'nelica’s plan to control both the city and the creatures—malfunctions and attacks Hekseville. Cyanea’s Dream Guardian self intervenes, freeing Dusty, who in turn frees Kat. With Yunica’s help, Kat damages the Sea Anemone’s armor. Then, with Cyanea and Gabe combining their powers with hers, she summons the Ark as a missile. D'nelica activates the Sea Anemone’s self-destruct, ignoring the potential destruction, but Kat, Raven, and Yunica manage to stop it and launch it toward Neu Hiraleon, where it explodes. The citizens celebrate Kat as their savior and demand D'nelica’s resignation for his role in the disaster. The children aboard the Ark remain in stasis, with Cyanea promising they will awaken to help restore balance to the world. D'nelica discovers Kat’s true identity through a red crystal in his possession, and Gerneaux recalls a prophecy about a harbinger of catastrophe descending from above—referring to Kat’s arrival.
