Grezzo 2 is a first-person shooter video game created by Italian game designer Nicola Piro and launched in 2012. The game is a complete overhaul mod of the 1993 title Doom, with development starting in the early 2000s under the name Grezzo 1 while Nicola Piro was still in high school. The story centers on pagan farmer Piro, who, frustrated and repulsed by Christianity, sets out to assassinate Jesus Christ in an attempt to stop the spread of his religious movement. The gameplay involves progressing through multiple levels, battling enemies and bosses, and utilizing a variety of weapons. The game features numerous notable figures from Italian culture and includes exaggerated, satirical takes on the nation's social, political, and religious themes. After its 2012 release, Grezzo 2 garnered widespread attention both domestically and internationally, largely due to its highly controversial, blasphemous, and graphic content.
The main character in *Grezzo 2* is Piro, a pagan farmer hailing from Perugia, Italy. Bitter about the spread of Christianity, Piro launches a violent rampage, beginning with the church where his grandparents are celebrating their silver wedding anniversary. Piro slaughters everyone at the reception and soon after dies, descending into the afterlife to face judgment by God, who is portrayed as an irritable, profanity-laden figure dressed in cultist garb. Depending on the player's choices, Piro can either confront and defeat God or sidestep the battle and flee the afterlife. An example of the blasphemous content in *Grezzo 2*. Throughout the game, the player is responsible for killing Jesus on two separate occasions. After returning to the living world and taking the lives of many others, Piro devises a plan to assassinate Jesus Christ as a newborn, aiming to eradicate the foundation of Christianity. Piro infiltrates the womb of the Virgin Mary and murders the unborn Jesus. A conveniently placed egg appears at the site of Jesus' death, which Piro uses his own semen to fertilize. From this egg, a new Piro emerges, violently bursting from the Virgin Mary and killing her in the process. The reborn Piro then pulls out a banjo and plays a tune for the Three Wise Men who had been standing by the Virgin Mary's side.
