
Ground Control takes place in the 25th century, after humanity survived the catastrophic Third World War—referred to in the game as "The Sixteen-minutes War," a conflict that nearly ended civilization. In the aftermath, humans spread out and established colonies on multiple planets across the galaxy. Earth is governed by the Global Central Command, or GCC, a ruling body composed of elected officials and representatives from the powerful mega corporations that emerged following the collapse of the old Terran governments. The story centers on the struggle between the Crayven Corporation and the Order of the New Dawn for control of the remote planet Krig 7-B. At the start of the game, players take on the role of Major Sarah Parker, a Crayven officer tasked with eradicating the Order's presence on the planet, whom she mockingly refers to as "Dawnies." In the second campaign, players control Deacon Jarred Stone, a leader of the Order, as he fights to push the Crayven forces off Krig 7-B. As both campaigns progress, each protagonist uncovers a sinister secret buried deep within the planet—a revelation that endangers all of humanity and explains why this seemingly barren world has become the center of such a fierce battle.
