Summary
Guitar Hero: On Tour is a line of music-based video games inspired by the Guitar Hero franchise, designed specifically for the Nintendo DS portable gaming system. The series was crafted by Vicarious Visions and published by RedOctane and Activision. Three titles have been launched since June 2008: Guitar Hero: On Tour, Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades, and Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits. Like other entries in the Guitar Hero series, players are tasked with performing lead or bass guitar parts of rock tracks by hitting color-coded notes that scroll toward them on the screen, timed with physical button presses to earn points and keep the virtual audience entertained. While the console versions of Guitar Hero rely on a dedicated guitar-shaped controller, Vicarious Visions created a "Guitar Grip" accessory that fits into the Game Boy Advance slot of the DS or DS Lite for use with the games; the Grip is not compatible with the Nintendo DSi or Nintendo 3DS. The Guitar Grip includes a strap for holding the device and offers four fret buttons, which players use alongside the stylus to mimic strumming on the DS's touch-sensitive display. Each title in the series includes over 25 tracks, with some regional variations in the song selection, and offers several single-player game modes. The DS's local Wi-Fi functionality supports multiplayer features, enabling players to compete using songs from different games in the series.
