A complete commercial overhaul of Doom 2. Though it didn't succeed commercially, it became a pivotal release for modders, helping kickstart the careers of numerous artists and level designers.
You're just going about your usual business—unauthorized access into secure systems—when your latest target, a high-tech firm, catches you mid-hack and sends a government goon to haul you in. Mother was right—some days just stink. You've broken a ton of laws, national and international. So what? That's what hackers do! But this time, you hit the jackpot of bad luck. You breached the wrong database. Genemp Corporation. Some kind of biotech outfit. Their system called itself GENIE. Strange name for such an advanced database. Especially since it caught you red-handed. And you're the best in the business. That kind of security shouldn’t even exist. It’s almost like it’s thinking. So they ship you off… to the big house. For life. No computers, no gear, zilch. Total bummer. Bricks and bars, and the guys inside aren’t your typical tough guys. They see your hacker frame and get a hungry look in their eyes. So for the next twelve months, you hit the weights—hard and fast! You lift like your life depends on it—and it does. You learn to sleep with one eye open. Punching the heavy bag becomes your morning routine; tae-kwon-do your afternoon, and for dinner… well, you’ve got to eat. And practice. A lot. Because those guys aren’t going to stop looking at you. But you’re different now! Where there was once spindly arms, now there’s solid muscle, and your kicks are so fierce they call you “Sir.” Once a scrawny geek, now you could be the cover of Muscle and Guns. Just in time, too. Because one day you return to your cell to find a tight-lipped, little man in a black suit and a lousy haircut. Won’t say his name, but claims to be a Government Agent with the Subcommittee. Which one? The Subcommittee. The guy’s a walking joke; one more clown and he’d have a full circus. But you listen—what else is there to do? And so he tells a story… of global communication failures, computer outages at military and government sites, stock market collapses, and something even stranger… hordes of cannibal zombies spreading across the world, destroying everything in their path! Just your average apocalypse. Martial law has been declared, but parts of the military are off the grid, and rogue units are attacking cities. The country’s in ruins! You thought prison was rough. So why tell you this? Because you’re the best hacker out there. And they think they know who’s behind it all—a powerful group of international tech giants. But they can’t get close. Every agent sent in has vanished. They need you to break into those corporate systems and uncover the truth. Even better, they want to implant a military-grade Genemp Microtel into your brain. A what? Where? A new cybernetic device that lets you jump from one computer to another through cyberspace like it’s a taxi. What's in it for you? You get to keep the Microtel and have a chat with the President. You laugh—it’s better than the offers from the guys with the hungry eyes. Oh, and there’s $20 million in gold. Suddenly you feel like a patriot. Why not? There’s just one catch, the Agent says. What? You have to stay alive.
