Summary
Natsume's beloved farm simulation series arrives on PlayStation with *Harvest Moon: Back to Nature*, marking the first entry in the franchise to appear on a non-Nintendo console. Starting with minimal tools and limited funds, players take on the challenging journey of restoring their grandfather's farm and proving themselves as its worthy successor. Players have three years to complete this mission. Each year is divided into four seasons, each lasting 30 days. Different crops can be grown during each season, but before planting, the land must be cleared and the soil prepared. Crops require regular watering until they reach maturity. When ready, they can be placed in a shipping bin to be collected and sold for profit. Beyond farming, players will build relationships with the local townsfolk and participate in seasonal events like the Tomato Festival and Fireworks Show. As income grows, players can expand their land and start raising animals such as chickens and cows.
Storyline
As a young child, the protagonist spent the summer at his grandfather's rural estate. His grandfather, preoccupied with managing the land, had little time for him, so the boy wandered the town and surrounding areas on his own. He bonded with his grandfather's young pup and met a girl his age, forming a strong friendship with her. When summer ended, the boy had to return home, but he vowed to the girl that he would come back one day. A decade later, long after his grandfather had passed away, the boy—now a man—returns to the town to reclaim the farm. After meeting the protagonist, the mayor and townsfolk agree to let him stay as the rightful heir if he can restore the farm to its former glory within three years. If not, he’ll have to leave.
