Hokuto no Ken 2: Seikimatsu Kyuuseishu Densetsu is a side-scrolling action title for the Family Computer developed and published by Toei Animation on April 17, 1987. It was released just a few days after the fifth episode of the anime series of the same name aired, making it a direct companion to the show. A Nintendo Entertainment System version was later brought to North America by Taxan in April 1989 under the title Fist of the North Star, marking the first Hokuto no Ken-related release outside Japan. Prior to its launch, the NES version was showcased at the 1988 Summer Consumer Electronics Show under the tentative title Ken the Great Bear Fist, a proposed English name for the series by Toei. Since the game was developed concurrently with the production of the Hokuto no Ken 2 anime, some story elements deviate from both the original manga and the animated series. Notably, the renegade Gento Kō Ken masters Taiga and Boltz from the anime appear as enemies alongside Jask and Sheeno, the sons of Jakō from the manga. Additionally, Bronza, a character unique to the game, takes the place of Shoki as the General of the Red Light. Although Shoki does not appear in the game, his death at the hands of Sheeno is referenced in the official strategy guide. The game focuses solely on the Tentei storyline, with a bonus stage that introduces the Nameless Asura as a secret final boss.
Following Raoh's death, the Central Imperial Capital established dominion over the lawless world, ruling under the title of the Heavenly Emperor. Now matured, Bat and Lin have united a rebellion under the name of Hokuto. Upon learning of the people's suffering, Kenshiro returns once more. He must swiftly make his way to the Imperial Capital and confront their leader, Falco, a master of the Gento Kō Ken style.
