Homeworld: Emergence was initially launched under the title "Homeworld: Cataclysm". "Cataclysm" is now a registered trademark of Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., so the game was renamed to prevent any misunderstanding. Aside from the subtitle, the game remains the same as the version released in 2000. Homeworld: Emergence is the second title in the Homeworld series. Originally designed as an expansion for Homeworld, the significant updates to the game engine and the inclusion of an extensive, in-depth single-player campaign (featuring 17 missions compared to Homeworld's 16) led the publisher to reclassify it as a full standalone game.
