Summary

Illusion City is a Japanese-inspired role-playing game featuring a number of unique traits. Unlike many games in the genre, it lacks a traditional overworld and is set entirely within a sprawling city composed of multiple districts. Players progress the story by exploring the city, interacting with non-playable characters, collecting information, accepting quests, and eventually entering large, intricate hostile zones. The game does not feature random battles; all enemies are clearly visible on the map, and many can be evaded. Combat is turn-based and presented from an "over-the-shoulder" viewpoint reminiscent of Phantasy Star II. Party members are introduced according to the story's progression, with a maximum of three characters active in battle at any time. A wide selection of weapons and armor can be bought or discovered in dungeons. Each character has specific weapon proficiencies that improve with repeated use of the same weapon type. Firearms require specialized ammunition, such as bullets or shotgun shells, which are consumed during combat and need to be replenished. Additionally, some characters can employ offensive, supportive, and healing abilities. Storyline

At the dawn of the 21st century, a catastrophic event known as the "demon-coming crisis" struck the Asian continent. Hong Kong suffered the most from this enigmatic demonic assault. Deadly plagues reduced the once-thriving metropolis to a mere ghost of its former self. When people finally returned to investigate the abandoned city, they discovered it had been taken over by a new ruling power — a corporation named SIVA. This new regime declared New Hong Kong as an independent nation. The People's Republic of China and the United Kingdom reached an agreement, both relinquishing their sovereignty over the city. The player assumes the role of Tianren, a "diver" (demon-hunter) residing in Hong Kong. His origins and the identities of his parents remain a mystery. Alongside a girl named Meihong, he was raised in the home of a wise Master. As they journey through the sprawling city, collect clues, and battle demonic entities, Tianren must uncover the secrets behind the corporation SIVA and the mythical supernatural beings rooted in Chinese folklore.
