Inspector Gadget: Gadget's Crazy Maze doesn't follow the typical expectations one might have when stepping into the shoes of the clumsy, multi-tool-equipped detective from the 1980s cartoon. Unlike the action-packed Game Boy Color version, this version of Inspector Gadget is more accurately categorized as a puzzle game with only minor action components. The plot of Gadget's Crazy Maze reveals that Inspector Gadget's enigmatic longtime foe is once again causing trouble. This time, the leader of the MADD, Dr. Claw, is manufacturing mind-control crystals on his hidden lunar base and sending them plummeting to Earth. If left undisturbed for a short period, these crystals will activate and take over the minds of everyone on the planet. To prevent interference, Dr. Claw has scattered them across four distinct regions, each guarded by his sinister henchmen.
