Jeanne d'Arc is a tactical role-playing video game that draws loosely from the life and challenges of Joan of Arc during the Hundred Years' War in the early 15th century, as she fought against the English occupation of France. The game maintains a certain level of historical accuracy in its portrayal of characters, including many real-life figures who were contemporaries and allies of Joan of Arc. This historical grounding stands in sharp contrast to the game's numerous fantasy elements, such as magical armlets that grant special powers to their wearers, and the depiction of King Henry VI of England as being possessed by demons, who then assist his forces in their campaign to conquer France.
Long ago, a mighty conflict erupted between humans and demons. Five legendary heroes forged five enchanted bracers and harnessed their united strength to banish the demons. Centuries have since passed, and now France and England are locked in the Hundred Years' War. The small village of Domrémy, nestled in the Lorraine region of France, was in the middle of a festive celebration when English troops suddenly launched an attack. A young girl from the village, Jeanne, was guided by a voice from above to rescue her homeland. With this, Jeanne, alongside her companions Roger and Liane, embarks on a perilous journey to liberate France from the oppressive rule of the demon-possessed English forces.
