Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD is a high-definition remaster of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, developed for the PlayStation 4. It was released as part of a three-game collection called Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. The game remains largely identical to its Nintendo 3DS version, with some added features and adjustments made to suit the PS4. The most noticeable change is the transition from a dual-screen format to a single screen. Gameplay remains mostly unchanged, though three new Dream Eaters have been added, along with minor tweaks to various game elements to better fit the PS4 platform.
After Ansem and Xemnas were defeated by Sora and Riku, Xehanort is reborn. In reaction to this threat, Yen Sid subjects Sora and Riku to the Mark of Mastery exam, preparing them to become true Keyblade Masters and confront the resurgence of Master Xehanort. As part of this challenge, the two are separated and sent to seven worlds that were once destroyed by the Heartless but have now been restored—though they remain in a state of "deep sleep," cut off from the rest of the worlds. These seven realms are now infested by Dream Eaters—beings born from darkness that hunt for the Keyholes of the slumbering worlds. Sora and Riku must awaken these sleeping worlds by finding and unlocking their seven Keyholes, then return to the realm of light. Along the way, they must enlist the aid of friendly "Spirit" Dream Eaters to guide and fight alongside them against the dangerous "Nightmare" Dream Eaters. Only then will they be recognized as Keyblade Masters.
