Summary

Koudelka serves as the prequel to the Shadow Hearts series by Sacnoth. The Shadow Hearts games are set within the Koudelka universe and include numerous locations and characters from Sacnoth's first title.

Storyline

Set in 1898 in Aberystwyth, Wales, the game explores the strange events connected to Nemeton Monastery and the three main characters who, through fate, find themselves uncovering its grim past. The story is divided into multiple narrative threads that intertwine: the monastery’s history as a brutal prison for heretics and political enemies, where prisoners were tortured and murdered; the heartbreaking tale of Charlotte, who was confined there from birth and executed as a child without ever understanding why, convinced she was unloved and now lingers as a ghost in the estate; and Ogden’s history as the captain of the wrecked ship The Princess Alice, his bond with the gentle Elaine, and the aftermath of her death.
