Kyuukyoku Tiger is a vertical scrolling shooter and the follow-up to Tiger-Heli, continuing the tradition of including the word Tiger in each title of the series. Later Japan-exclusive sequels would carry the same name, which roughly means "Ultimate Tiger". The helicopter is armed with a default forward-facing weapon that can strike both air and ground targets, along with a limited number of bombs that unleash massive damage in a wide area. Players can collect power-ups by destroying the durable Chinook enemy helicopters, which first allow upgrades to the standard gun for more firepower, eventually leading to the acquisition of weapons with unique firing patterns. These include a four-directional shot that fires in all cardinal directions and a spread shot that fires outward in a cone shape. Players can also gain more bombs by eliminating these enemies. At the end of each level, and sometimes midway through, a boss awaits. These enemies require significantly more firepower to defeat and can unleash a barrage of projectiles.
