La-Mulana is a 2D side-scrolling platformer initially launched on May 27, 2005, in Japan for Microsoft Windows, boasting visuals and a user interface influenced by MSX-era games. It follows the classic action-adventure style, drawing comparisons to Metroid. Initially released exclusively in Japanese, an English translation patch was later created by Ian Kelley of AGTP.
The main character in the game is Lemeza, a whip-wielding explorer reminiscent of Indiana Jones, venturing through the ancient tomb of La-Mulana. While the game features only a single ending, there are numerous paths to reach it. Progressing through the game—by completing tasks, acquiring power-ups, and unlocking new regions—is non-linear, with no clearly suggested route. Many of the power-ups enable access to previously unreachable areas (much like in Super Metroid), but the game offers no guidance on where to go next.
