Summary

Lost Odyssey takes place in a world undergoing a "Magic-Industrial Revolution." Before this era, magic energy was present in all living beings, but thirty years prior to the game's start, it suddenly became significantly stronger. This shift has had a profound impact on society, leading to the development of devices known as "Magic Engines," which utilize this energy for lighting, transportation, communication, and even robots. What was once a rare gift, limited to a few, is now accessible to many. However, this advancement has also led to the creation of devastating new weapons by two nations. The Kingdom of Gohtza, now a heavily industrialized power, and the Republic of Uhra, which transitioned from a monarchy, are both racing to harness magic for military purposes. Uhra is constructing the massive magic engine known as the Grand Staff, while Gohtza aggressively pushes forward with its own magical research. A third nation, the Free Ocean State of Numara, remains isolated and neutral, but is currently in turmoil as a general attempts a coup d'etat. At the start of the game, Uhra, engaged in war with Khent, a land inhabited by beastmen, sends its forces to the Highlands of Wohl for a decisive confrontation.
