Mahjong Sword: Princess Quest Gaiden is a Mahjong video game created and released by Naxat Soft for the TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine system in 1995. It serves as a censored version of the PC-98 title "Mahjong Sword: Princess Quest," which had been released just a few months earlier. The game is a spin-off of the eccentric PC-98 board and card RPG, "KuruKuru Party: Princess Quest."
A warrior princess from the distant land of Rutia journeys to the kingdom of Audores after her father recounts the legend of the "Mahjong Sword," a mythical weapon said to grant any wish to its possessor and hidden within the region. Upon her arrival, she finds that the tale holds some truth but soon learns she must face off against other princesses from across the world before the sword's secret can be revealed. Each princess's hidden power can only be expressed through Mahjong duels, and the blade is destined to be inherited only by women.
