Summary

Makaimura Gaiden: The Demon Darkness is an action platformer released in Japan for the Game Boy in 1993. It is the second game in the series for the handheld, starring the demon Red Arremer—known internationally as Firebrand, a boss from Ghosts 'n Goblins—as the playable character. The game was initially planned for an English localization under the title Gargoyle's Quest II, but its release in North America was ultimately scrapped.

Storyline

Firebrand is a young warrior undergoing training in his home country of Etruria. One day, while he is practicing in a small, parallel dimension, the Black Light suddenly emerges and obliterates his homeland. When Firebrand returns from his training victorious, he is urgently summoned to see the king by another ghoul just moments before it perishes. After defeating Nagus, Firebrand meets King Morock, who reveals he is near death. In his final moments, the king hands Firebrand the Spectre's Fingernail, setting him on a quest to uncover the truth behind the Black Light.
