Mario Teaches Typing 2 follows up on the original Mario Teaches Typing. The game introduces a variety of new elements, such as a certificate of accomplishment, a color-coded keyboard for easier learning, an on-screen keyboard, personalized lesson plans, and additional levels. Throughout the game, Mario’s face engages in light conversation with the player. Many of Mario’s expressions and actions are nods to pop culture. It also marks the final educational title in the Mario series.
Mario and Luigi were strolling near Bowser's Castle one day when they spotted the Magical Typewriter hovering in midair. Intrigued, Mario tried using it, but his typing skills left much to be desired. Before he could continue, the Magical Typewriter suddenly burst into pieces. In its place floated a scroll. Mario grabbed it and discovered an image showing three fragments of the Magical Typewriter. Determined, Mario and Luigi set out to retrieve all the pieces and help Mario become a better typist.
