Maximum Force is a light gun shooter arcade game created by Mesa Logic for Atari Games in 1997. In 1998, Atari Games bundled the game into a single machine known as the Area 51/Maximum Force Duo, which also featured Area 51, and later adapted the game for the Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn consoles. Much like its predecessor Area 51, Maximum Force is recognized for its use of digitized video stored on an internal hard drive, as well as the oddly unrealistic gibs that enemies explode into when shot, all in the same manner. While enemies, civilians, and explosions are 2D digitized video sprites, the environments and vehicles are rendered in 3D.
