Summary

MediEvil II is an action-adventure title created by SCE Cambridge Studio and released by Sony Computer Entertainment. Launching in 2000 for the PlayStation, it serves as a follow-up to the initial MediEvil game and picks up the tale of Sir Daniel Fortesque. Taking place in a London of the Victorian age, the game sees Sir Dan brought back to life once more to thwart the sorcerer Lord Palethorn, who has caused widespread disorder by bringing the dead back using pages from Zarok’s spellbook. The game blends fast-paced combat, exploration, and problem-solving, offering fresh weapons, environments, and adversaries. New elements include a spectral companion named Kiya and innovative gameplay features like manipulating Dan’s separated head to solve particular puzzles.

Storyline

In 1886, within the heart of Kensington, 500 years after Sir Daniel Fortesque's legendary clash with the dark sorcerer Zarok, a powerful mage named Lord Palethorn uncovers Zarok's forbidden spellbook and unleashes a deadly incantation that raises the dead across London. But as the book's pages begin to disperse throughout the city, Palethorn himself transforms into a monstrous figure. The spell he casts awakens Sir Dan, who had been in slumber at a nearby museum. He is soon enlisted by Professor Hamilton Kift and his spectral companion Winston to retrieve the scattered pages of Zarok's tome and thwart Palethorn's sinister ambitions. Their journey soon brings them an unexpected ally: the ancient mummy princess Kiya, who becomes Dan's beloved. When Kiya ventures out alone, she falls victim to Jack the Ripper, a tragedy that deeply shakes Dan. Discovering a time machine, Dan journeys back to prevent her death, fusing with his former self to don golden armor. In the climactic battle against Palethorn, Dan wrests the pages from him and uses them to summon a massive blue demon. But Dan cleverly turns the demon against its master, ending both their threats. As Palethorn destroys his lair in his final moments, Dan chooses to reunite with Kiya in the afterlife, finding peace together. However, if the player has gathered all the Chalices, Dan and Kiya instead embark on a journey through time, riding the machine to Zarok's ancient arena.
