MediEvil: Resurrection is a 2005 action-adventure title for the PlayStation Portable and serves as the third entry in the MediEvil game series. It reinterprets the first game in the franchise, MediEvil, with significant changes to its structure and content. A new "Anubis Stone" storyline was added, which wasn't present in the original. Level design and characters were heavily modified, with some levels from the first game completely omitted. New levels and characters were introduced, the cutscenes are entirely new, and the game adopts a more humorous, cartoonish tone compared to the original's gothic horror-comedy blend. The soundtrack is fully orchestrated, with half of the original themes removed and new ones composed to match the redesigned levels. Unlike the first game, there is no alternate ending—Dan heads to the Hall of Heroes regardless of whether he collects all the chalices. The game also includes a range of voice actors, such as Tom Baker, who voices both the narrator and the Grim Reaper.
In 1286, a dark sorcerer known as Zarok aimed to conquer the Kingdom of Gallowmere. Tales speak of a courageous knight, Sir Daniel Fortesque, who supposedly vanquished the wicked wizard and restored tranquility to Gallowmere. In truth, however, Dan was the first to fall in the Battle of Gallowmere, felled by an arrow to the eye during the initial charge. A hundred years later, in 1386, Zarok returns and casts a curse upon Gallowmere, draining the souls of its inhabitants and raising the dead. This spell also revives Dan, now joined by Al-Zalam, a genie whose powers were stripped by Zarok and condemned to dwell within Dan's skull. Viewing his rebirth as an opportunity to become the hero he was never given a chance to be, Dan embarks on a journey to avenge Zarok, gathering fragments of a relic known as the Anubis Stone. After collecting all the pieces and reaching Zarok’s stronghold, Dan faces the sorcerer and his immortal forces, but he halts the army by using the Anubis Stone to summon the spirits of those who perished in the Battle of Gallowmere. Zarok shifts into a cobra for one final strike, but Dan overcomes him. As Zarok meets his end, he triggers a self-destruction sequence in his lair, hoping to eliminate Dan as well. However, Dan is rescued by Al-Zalam, who is freed from his curse with Zarok’s death. With peace restored to Gallowmere, Dan finds eternal rest, finally earning his rightful place as a true hero in the Hall of Heroes.
