Meikyuu Hunter G is a multi-directional shooter arcade game developed by Data East Corporation and released in Japan in 1987. It was later localized by Data East USA as The Real Ghostbusters under a license from Columbia Pictures Television, based on their animated series of the same name, for the American market later that year. The US version introduced a third playable character, Egon Spengler, in a yellow suit, while the original Japanese blue- and red-suited protagonists were renamed Peter Venkman and Ray Stantz. The American adaptation also added two additional stages and an ending sequence, as the original Japanese version would simply loop back after the eighth stage. New power-ups were included, such as Slimer (referred to as the "Green Ghost"), and ghosts that appear after defeating unnamed enemies, which can be captured and stored in "Ghost Storage" at the end of each stage. Capturing 100 ghosts rewards the player with an extra life.
