Summary

In the final years of his rule, North Korean leader Choi Kim sought to mend relations with the country's southern neighbor, aiming ultimately for unification. However, his son, General Choi Song, and the military faction loyal to him, fiercely opposed the elder's vision. In the end, Choi Song plotted his father's assassination, seized control of North Korea, and cut all connections with the outside world. Soon after, plans for constructing a nuclear reactor began to emerge. China, South Korea, the Allied Nations, and even the Russian Mafia deployed troops to North Korea, vying for influence in the unstable region. A reward of one hundred million dollars was placed on General Song's head. This is where the mercenaries come into the picture. Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction is a free-roaming action and driving game set in a war-torn, open world. The player can choose from three mercenary protagonists, each with unique abilities: North American Chris Jacobs can withstand more damage; Hong Kong's Jennifer Mui excels in stealth; and Swedish Mattias Nilsson can outpace the rest. Each character speaks different languages, making them more or less compatible with specific factions. Players are free to roam a vast terrain, taking on bounties from the "Deck of 52," a list of the most wanted criminals in North Korea, as well as various factions. Four factions have moved in to exploit the coup for their own benefit; each offers the player resources like vehicles and supplies, along with missions to earn money. If a faction is pleased with the player's actions, they will provide intel on the locations of bounties from the deck. A wide range of tools is available to complete missions. Players can seize control of tanks, helicopters, and other military equipment to destroy the game's destructible environment across the North Korean landscape. Assisting different factions grants access to vehicle drops, supply caches, and air strikes.
