Metal Warriors is a 1995 action platform game created by LucasArts and released by Konami for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The title was available only in North America, debuting there in April 1995. The game features a blend of action and shooting elements, along with mission-driven exploration, all controlled through a primary seven-button layout.
Metal Warriors is set in the year 2102, when the United Earth Government is under attack by the Dark Axis, a military force commanded by the tyrant Venkar Amon. For three years, Amon has waged war on Earth, but the freedom-fighting group known as the Metal Warriors, armed with robotic combat armor, are the last line of defense for the planet. Taking control of Lieutenant Stone, players guide him through a series of missions that begin in space, including the rescue of agent Marissa from Axis 5, the capture of an enemy supply ship, and the seizing of a heavily defended asteroid base to secure crucial resources for the team. The success of the asteroid mission is so significant that Stone is promoted from lieutenant to captain of his unit. However, this victory draws the ire of the Axis army, who retaliate by attacking the group’s main ship. Stone and his crew must then defend their vessel using the stolen Prometheus units. Following this conflict, the team is assigned to disable an anti-spacecraft cannon in Alaska to allow safe air operations, a critical step in driving the Axis forces off Earth. After stealing the experimental Drache aircraft from a jungle base in Chile, battling through the ruined city of Dorado, seizing underground Axis mining facilities, and retrieving a command key from an enemy communications tower, the group finally arrives at the Axis command center, where a powerful super weapon is said to be under development. Stone and his crew lead the final push to destroy it. Deep within the command center, Stone confronts Venkar Amon in a high-speed aerial battle between fully mobile armored suits. Despite Amon’s attempt to flee in a hijacked Nitro suit, he is ultimately consumed in a fiery explosion along with the base. Stone escapes the blast, though his Nitro suit is destroyed upon landing, signaling the end of the Dark Axis and the war.
