Summary
Metro-Cross is a platform-style arcade game developed and released by Namco in 1985. It utilizes the Namco Pac-Land hardware system, but features a video setup similar to that of Dragon Buster, enhanced to support a 2048-color palette. The game is powered by a Motorola M6809 microprocessor, assisted by a Hitachi HD63701 sub-processor (both operating at 1.536 MHz), and features audio through a Namco 8-channel waveform PSG. In the game, players control a character simply called Runner, who must complete each of the game's thirty-two levels within a set time limit, dodging obstacles and gathering drink cans along the way. The running action is automatic; the player's role is to maneuver the Runner using the control stick and adjust his speed to avoid hazards and collect items. If the Runner completes a level before time runs out, the leftover time is converted into bonus points and carried over to the next level. Every fourth level is a special stage that combines the remaining time from the previous three rounds as extra time. However, if the Runner fails to finish a level before the timer hits zero, he will be electrocuted and the game will end immediately.
