Summary

Midtown Madness, also referred to as Midtown Madness: Chicago Edition, is a racing game created for Windows by Angel Studios, which later became Rockstar San Diego, and published by Microsoft. The demo version was made available for download on May 1, 1999, with the full game launching at the end of that same month. Two follow-up titles were released: Midtown Madness 2 in September 2000 and Midtown Madness 3 in June 2003 for the Xbox. Set in Chicago, the game challenges players to win street races and earn new vehicles. In contrast to racing games that confine players to fixed tracks, Midtown Madness presents an open-world version of Chicago, allowing for a high level of freedom to drive and explore. Players can choose from various game modes and customize weather and traffic settings for each race. The game supports multiplayer racing over a local network or the Internet. It was generally well-received by gaming websites.
