Summary
The Super NES edition of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is a side-scrolling action title much like the earlier SNES game inspired by the series. It supports one or two players and offers six playable characters. Billy and Kimberly make a return from the prior game, while Tommy appears as the White Ranger (as opposed to the Green Ranger in the previous title). Also joining are three rookie rangers—Rocky, Adam, and Aisha—who take the place of Jason, Zack, and Trini from the original game. At the start of each level, the player controls their character in their civilian form. A "Morphing meter" appears beside the health bar and can be filled by collecting thunderbolt-shaped items, which enemies drop. These items can also be used to execute special attacks once the character is in Ranger Mode. A special code included with the game allows players to start each level already in their Ranger form. When the Morphin' meter is full, the player can press the special attack button to morph, triggering an animated sequence showing the rangers transforming using digitized video (based on Season 2’s transformation, excluding the final Red Ranger helmet assembly). This transformation also occurs automatically after completing a level in civilian form and facing the boss, regardless of the Morphin' meter’s status. The game features seven levels, with the player battling Lord Zedd’s Putty Patrol until reaching the stage’s boss. The first five bosses are monsters from the second season of the TV series, the sixth is a new creation for the game, and the final boss is Ivan Ooze, the main antagonist of the movie. Unlike the first game, there are no giant robot battles in this version, though the Ninja Megazord from the film (and the third season of the show) appears in the ending sequence.
