ModNation Racers is a Kart Racing game that delivers all the track-driven action and humorous combat fans love, combined with deep customization and user-created content typical of a contemporary online multiplayer experience. Storyline
The narrative centers on the player, often called "Tagger" or "Tag," who remains silent during in-game cutscenes. Biff Tradwell and Gary Reasons, the commentators for the Modnation Racing Championship, introduce the qualifier for this season's MRC tour. Tag lives with his mother at their family-owned paint shop, where business has been struggling for a long time. After showing his mother a poster for the MRC race, she tells him that his grandfather, Chief, was once a crew chief, and that with Chief's guidance and his own kart, he can enter the qualifier. Although Chief is critical of Tag's kart design choices, he agrees to serve as his crew chief. After qualifying for the MRC Tour and gaining a following for his distinctive racing style, Tag's Uncle Richard, who leads Conservative Motors—a company known for producing cheap, dull karts—tries to get Tag to sign a sponsorship deal, which Tag quickly rejects. Midway through the Home Tour, Tag's mother reveals they can no longer afford the ongoing repairs to his kart. When the kart breaks down, Tag's mother, inspired by her son's rising popularity, decides to transform their paint shop into a body shop, which becomes an immediate success and allows the family to remain financially stable.
