Summary

Monster Hunter 2 features an enhanced weapon progression system and armor that can be upgraded. Just like in all Monster Hunter titles, wearing armor grants players access to various skills and abilities. A new addition in Monster Hunter 2 is the use of gems. These gems provide additional skill points that work alongside those from armor and weapons. Gems are crafted by combining ore and/or parts obtained from monsters. They can be placed into and removed from armor and weapons that have designated gem slots. In addition to the returning monster species from the original Monster Hunter, Monster Hunter 2 introduces a variety of new creatures. Among them are the metallic wind dragon Kushala Daora, the lion-headed dragon Teo Teskatoru (known as Teostra in the North American and PAL versions of Monster Hunter Freedom 2) and his female counterpart Nana Teskatory (called Lunastra in the North American and PAL versions of MHF2), the primate-like monsters Babakonga and Dodobrango (referred to as Congalala and Blangonga in MHF2), the bull or minotaur-like beast Rajang, and the chameleon-like dragon Oonazuchi (known as Chameleos in MHF2). The introduction of these new monsters also brings the possibility of acquiring new weapons and armor sets.
