Monster Hunter 4 is the second title in the series to launch on the Nintendo 3DS. It features numerous updates and enhancements that distinguish it from its predecessors. The game was originally released exclusively in Japan. Later, an enhanced version called Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (known as 4G in Japan) was made available in Europe and North America. Platforming has become more prominent, with smoother and more flexible wall climbing in all directions. For the first time, Hunters can grab onto monsters and strike them. Environments are more expansive and utilize greater vertical space, while the introduction of the Frenzy Virus makes many monsters more dangerous than before. Several creatures from earlier games return, including notable names like Rathalos, Rathian, Tigrex, and Yian Kut-Ku — for a complete list, refer to MH4: Monsters. The game also introduces two new weapon types: the Insect Glaive and the Charge Blade.
