Summary
Moonstone: A Hard Days Knight is a video game created and released by Mindscape in 1991. It originally launched on the Amiga and was later adapted for MS-DOS a year later, featuring different sound and music. The name is a pun on *A Hard Day's Night*. The game combines multiple genres, including strategy, real-time action, and role-playing elements. It supports up to four players in a turn-based RPG format, with real-time combat during battles. It also stands out for being one of the most violent games of its era, with notably graphic and bloody battle and death sequences.
Storyline
In this adventure, the player assumes the identity of a selected knight tasked by the druids to return the enchanted 'moonstone' to Stonehenge. The game allows for 1 to 4 players to participate simultaneously, with any unoccupied knight positions controlled by the computer as opposing NPCs. The world map is split into four unique regions: Misty Moors: The northwest territory of the Blue Knight (Sir Godber). Enemies encountered here include Troggs wielding axes and spears, along with their War Beasts. The region also contains the city of Highwood, home to the High Temple where players can trade and purchase magical items. Wetlands: The southeast domain of the Red Knight (Sir Edward). Foes in this area are Trolls and Mudmen. The city of Waterdeep is located here, where the Mystic Mythral can enhance the player’s abilities in return for gold—or, at random, weaken them. Great Forest: The southwest area controlled by the Green Knight (Sir Jeffrey). This region is populated by Troggs and Ratmen. It includes Stonehenge, where players can restore a life by offering a magical item. Northern Wastelands: The northeast zone of the Orange Knight (Sir Richard). Enemies here are Troggs and Baloks. The region also contains the Tower of Math the Wizard, who may randomly bestow rewards or turn the player into a frog if they ask too often.
