Storyline
Five centuries ago, a revered and ancient Shaolin martial arts tournament, held once every fifty years, was tainted by the dark influence of an aged and sinister sorcerer named Shang Tsung. Alongside him stood Prince Goro, a fearsome Shokan warrior—part human, part dragon, with four powerful arms. Understanding that if ten consecutive tournaments were won by the champions of Outworld, the Earth Realm would be consumed by darkness and fall to evil, Shang Tsung entered Goro into the contest. Goro bested the legendary Kung Lao and has remained the undefeated champion for five hundred years. With the final tournament approaching, Raiden, the Thunder God and guardian of the Earth Realm, devises a strategy to shift the balance in favor of humanity. Seven warriors gather on Shang Tsung’s enigmatic island: the Shaolin fighter Liu Kang, the elite operative Sonya Blade, the ruthless mercenary Kano, the charismatic performer Johnny Cage, the frost-wielding Lin Kuei assassin Sub-Zero and his vengeful undead foe Scorpion, and Raiden himself.
