Mystery Case Files: Dire Grove is an interactive cinematic puzzle adventure created by Big Fish Studios and published by Big Fish Games. It serves as the sixth entry in the Mystery Case Files series. The game is only available through the Big Fish Games website. The Mystery Case Files brand remains the top-selling name in casual gaming, with over 2.5 million copies sold to date.
The story begins right after the events of *Mystery Case Files: Return to Ravenhearst*. The player is driving through a run-down town named Dire Grove, seemingly empty and abandoned. A heavy snowstorm is on the way, and with no other choice, the player must search the desolate town for a place to take shelter. Inside a forgotten car, the player discovers a camcorder. The video reveals a teenage girl, tearful and begging the player to help save them. A strange note is also found: "She is real. The legend is real." As the player investigates the area, they realize the entire village has been evacuated due to the storm, leaving them to act alone. They uncover that the girl in the footage is Alison Sterling, a college student who came to Dire Grove to study the Celtic legend of the Banshee. She arrived with three friends, and all four have vanished. The player also learns that Dr. Patricia Anderson, an archaeologist, recently uncovered some ancient relics in the area. Through their journey, the player uncovers the tale of the Banshee. Long ago, a farmer, a fisherman, a hunter, and a blacksmith performed a ritual to open a portal to the spirit world. When the spirits turned violent, they sacrificed a young woman to calm them and seal the portal. This woman became the Banshee, and now she seeks to return. The player discovers that the students have been subdued and controlled by the Banshee. Dr. Anderson's recordings suggest the relics she found might be the key to the portal. The player is forced into a single choice: open the portal and send the Banshee back to the spirit world. But after doing so, they realize the Banshee has deceived them, using them to free her spirit. The player must now work quickly to trap her again and rescue the students. In the end, Alison gives a talk about the events in Dire Grove, receiving a standing ovation from a large audience, including her friends. When asked about the player's identity, she replies: "That person has asked to remain nameless, but I can give you their business card." She holds up a card, revealing the *Mystery Case Files* logo, and the credits begin to roll.
