Summary
The narrative centers on Goemon's efforts to stop the Peach Mountain Shoguns from converting Japan into a Western-style performing arts venue. The storyline includes three musical cinematic acts and clashes between massive mechs; as with other Ganbare Goemon titles, it's filled with absurdist comedy and time-period inconsistencies. In Mystical Ninja, Goemon takes the lead as a passionate, kiseru-smoking ninja with wild blue hair, inspired by the famous rogue Ishikawa Goemon. The ruler of Oedo tasks him with tracking down those who injured Oedo Castle. Goemon resides in Oedo Town and shares a bond with Ebisumaru, a peculiar, gluttonous man in a blue headscarf known for his laziness and lecherous tendencies. Their friend Sasuke, a kunai-throwing mechanical ninja crafted by the Wise Man of Iga, loves hot springs and green tea. Completing the team is Yae, a powerful kunoichi who joins Goemon in Zazen Town. The antagonists come from the Peach Mountain Shoguns, a group led by the eccentric quartet of Spring Breeze Dancin' (Danshin Harukaze) and Kitty Lily (Margaret Ranko), who seek to turn Japan into a grand stage for their performances.
