College Hoops 2K8 is a video game developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K Sports. It launched on November 19, 2007, for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3. The game's cover showcases Greg Oden, a former standout for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Nearly every Division I NCAA college basketball team at the time was featured in 2K8, including newer additions like South Carolina-Upstate, Cal State-Bakersfield, and Florida Gulf Coast. Presbyterian College and North Carolina Central, both D-1 independent programs, were excluded. Additionally, Centenary College from the Summit League was unlicensed and rebranded as UL-Calcutta. The game also introduced the ability to customize and alter rosters, with the option to share them online using the new 2K Share feature. The real-life coaches feature was removed, likely due to the coaches declining to renew their contracts, resulting in all coaching staff being unnamed. The in-game announcers were Verne Lundquist and Bill Raftery. In 2008, the College Hoops series was put on hold as 2K Sports decided not to pursue the college licensing rights for a 2K9 release. EA Sports secured the contract before 2K could, allowing EA to continue developing college basketball titles. However, EA later discontinued their college basketball series in 2010. As of now, it remains uncertain whether 2K Sports will revive the College Hoops 2K series.
