NCAA Football was a video game franchise created by EA Sports that allowed players to manage and battle with real Division I FBS college football teams. The series was closely related to the Madden NFL franchise. In July 2013, the NCAA declared it would not extend its licensing agreement with Electronic Arts due to a continuing legal battle over the use of real players' images in the games. However, this agreement only covered the NCAA's name and associated logos, not those of individual universities or conferences, which were handled separately or through the Collegiate Licensing Company. At the same time, the CLC announced it would renew its licensing agreement with EA through 2017, allowing EA Sports to continue the series without the NCAA's branding.[1] Despite this, the series was put on hold in September 2013 after three major conferences withdrew their trademark licenses from EA, along with ongoing concerns about the outcome of lawsuits involving the use of player likenesses in the game. Nevertheless, EA Sports continues to work toward reviving the series.[2]
