The NCAA Basketball (previously known as NCAA March Madness) series was a college basketball video game developed and published by EA Sports from 1998 to 2009. Following the cancellation of 2K Sports' college basketball title, College Hoops, in 2008, EA rebranded the series from NCAA March Madness to NCAA College Basketball. The franchise was officially retired on February 10, 2010.[1] As with other NCAA sports-based games, it could not include players' names due to NCAA regulations, so only jersey numbers appeared on the rosters. Players had the option to customize the rosters, adding the correct names for each team if desired. Many player surnames were incorporated into the in-game commentary, similar to the NBA Live series. Verne Lundquist, Brad Nessler, and Gus Johnson provided play-by-play commentary at different points in the series. Lundquist was the original voice, with Nessler taking over in the mid-2000s and Johnson joining for the final entry in the series. Bill Raftery and Dick Vitale served as analysts. Raftery initially partnered with Lundquist and later returned to work with Johnson on the CBS-themed games in NCAA Basketball 10, while Vitale and Nessler joined the series together.
