EA's football management simulation returns to the field in NFL Head Coach 09. Unlike the action-packed Madden NFL series, this title takes a more strategic, management-focused approach, similar to European soccer management games. While the first installment of NFL Head Coach met with mixed reactions, the 2009 edition aims to improve with a stronger emphasis on realism and depth. As before, your success as a coach is measured by your approval rating, which is influenced by everything from your win-loss record to in-game decisions like going for it on fourth down or reacting to a quarterback's mistake. The new Live Event system adds pressure to key decisions, as trades, coaching changes, free agency, and contract talks must be completed within a time limit. The NFL draft remains a central focus of the offseason, and players can prepare by scouting prospects at college all-star games, the NFL Combine, and pro days. Commentary from NFL Network's Adam Schefter provides in-depth insight into the backgrounds and college careers of over 20,000 draft hopefuls. Additional realism comes from features like non-drafted rookie free agents, 75-man preseason rosters, trades with future draft picks, a new injury fatigue system, and 300 new sideline animations. Online, players can share and download custom plays, rate them, or view them in action. A two-player mode lets coaches face off in a fast-paced challenge. Offline, you can adjust plays mid-game and save new formations or build full playbooks using the coach clipboard interface. All custom plays can be exported for use in Madden NFL 09. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide
