Step onto the ice with EA Sports' NHL 06 for the XBOX. This latest installment in the NHL series improves upon the 2005 edition by introducing new rules and a current roster featuring nearly every major name in the National Hockey League. NHL 06 carries over all the features from NHL 05, including the refined shooting mechanics. New to the 2006 version is the use of the left analog stick for deking, which in hockey terms means dodging and faking out defenders. The right analog stick allows players to execute flashy moves like spins or between-the-legs passes. These flashy maneuvers can distract goalkeepers, creating opportunities to take a shot. However, the downside is that only superstar players can perform these moves consistently. The game offers a variety of traditional hockey modes, including dynasty mode. In dynasty mode, players manage their own team, dealing with external pressures, sponsorships, and more while striving to meet the unique team philosophy for each franchise. Additional modes include single season, leagues and tournaments, quick game, and online multiplayer. The graphics in NHL 06 are exceptional. This time around, they've been fine-tuned to accurately reflect player size differences. Defensemen and goalies, who are typically bigger, look appropriately larger, while the smaller, quicker forwards appear thinner and more agile. This is just one of the many small improvements that enhance the incredible gameplay of NHL 06.
