Summary
Two years ago, a group of teenagers found themselves locked inside their school. They endured the longest night of their lives, running for their lives from monstrous beings conjured by their principal. Some made it out alive, while others didn’t. Now, the survivors are trying to rebuild their lives and have enrolled in college. But things are far from normal at Fallcreek University: mysterious flowers begin to bloom across campus, releasing a substance that causes intense, vivid dreams. A few students soon discover that these flowers are more dangerous than they appear. When the seeds finally take root, nightmares become terrifyingly real.
Storyline
The narrative takes place two years after the "Leafmore Incident" (the events of the first Obscure), with the incident somehow concealed. Shannon and Kenny are now attending the nearby Fallcreek University, while Stan is rebuilding his life as a delivery truck driver. Stan and Kenny must take medication to prevent the plant from taking over their bodies, while Shannon has managed to adjust to the changes. The game begins as a new drug, derived from a mysterious flower, rapidly spreads across the university. Soon, a small group of students, including the Leafmore High survivors, must confront a wave of mutants and fight for survival. The spores spread throughout the city and eventually the entire country. The outbreak starts at a fraternity party hosted by the ΔΘГ brotherhood. Amy and Kenny are the first to arrive, only to find the place overrun when they enter. The students then meet Richard James, the university's biology teacher, who assists the group on multiple occasions. After some time, the group is joined by Corey and Mei, who are also trying to escape. Outside, Sven is nearly hit by someone driving Corey's car, so Corey and Amy chase the car thief into the woods. Meanwhile, Mei, who receives a call from her twin sister Jun, goes with Sven to rescue her, but fails as Jun is killed by a monster. The pair finds Corey's car, but its owner becomes angry and, with Amy's help, kills the now-mutated thief. After more walking, they encounter a disfigured man, battle new creatures (Harpies), and make their way through the forest to reach the "Fallcreek University Hospital," where they find Shannon and her brother Kenny, the latter of whom is seriously ill after inhaling the drug made from the black spore flower. He is unable to find his medication and eventually dies, transforming into a monster. The group reunites on the hospital's east ground floor, where they create chemical dynamite to blast through a wall and reach the parking lot. Sven and Corey help the others into a warehouse, but they are surprised by a monstrous Kenny who throws Corey into a pole and kills Mei, deeply shocking Corey. Stan, having responded to Kenny's call before his transformation, joins the surviving group and drives them away until he crashes and falls into a dam. Shannon and Stan explore the dam, and the entire group finally reunites to find Amy in a corner of the room. After locating Amy, they discover that this was the result of Kenny's actions, who implied that he had raped her. The group escapes, but Corey and Shannon stay behind and defeat him by making him fall into a pit with a massive metal device crashing down on him. As the game progresses, Stan and Shannon grow closer. While they find a place to take shelter, Amy and Sven explore and are ambushed by a man with a disfigured face wielding a chainsaw. The disfigured man fights Sven to allow Amy to escape. When they find Sven impaled on a meat hook by the disfigured man at an abandoned house, Stan and Shannon chase after the man, leading them to the ruins of the school from the first game and a tree with massive, moving branches. The tree is actually the mutated remains of Leonard Friedman (from Obscure), while the disfigured man is his son, Jedidiah. Friedman had injected himself with a mutated virus, which was then passed on to Jedidiah. Stan and Corey kill the Friedman tree, while Corey finishes off Jedidiah, avenging Sven's death. When they return, they find Richard and an ambulance carrying a pregnant Amy. Stan and Corey learn that the fraternity, Delta Theta Gamma, is not just a regular college fraternity but an ancient and powerful organization seeking to harness the power of the Mortifilla. The ambulance takes Stan, Shannon, Amy, and Corey away, but they crash at a bridge after passing through a cloud of spores. Stan and Shannon try to locate Richard's new pickup point and head toward it, while Corey goes to rescue Amy. On their way, they stumble upon the museum of the Delta Theta Gamma within Fallcreek and discover that they were responsible for covering up the Leafmore incident and were involved in the Friedman's experiment with the Mortifilla. They also learn that Josh and Ashley, their friends from Leafmore, were killed by Jedidiah after investigating the abandoned house where he lived. Corey arrives first to see Richard taking Amy away in a helicopter. But the ride is interrupted by a still-alive and more powerful Monster Kenny. Corey decides to fight him, but the battle is short-lived as Kenny infects Corey. When Shannon and Stan reach the new destination, they find Corey, just as he is infected, on his knees. He says that Mei was the only one he truly cared about, then takes his own life. Stan and Shannon kill Kenny by crushing him with a massive platform of lights over the football field. As Kenny lies dying under the platform, he begs Shannon to take care of his child, but she vows that she will not let it live. The helicopter carrying Amy and Richard fills with a cloud of spores before it explodes. Stan asks Shannon what to do next; she replies that she will continue on, cut all family ties, and stop the Delta Theta Gamma organization.
