Summary

A high-octane action anime thriller unfolds in *Oni*. As a top agent in the tech crimes task force, Konoko is determined to take down the sinister Syndicate. But nothing is as straightforward as it appears. Tormented by mysterious demons from her past, Konoko faces a truth that could push her to the breaking point.

Storyline

Set in or following the year 2032, the story of Oni unfolds in a bleak, polluted Earth where most of the planet is no longer livable. To address global economic collapse, all countries have merged under one governing body, the World Coalition Government. This authoritarian regime misleads the public, labeling toxic wastelands as protected natural reserves and deploying its law enforcement, the Technological Crimes Task Force (TCTF), to crush dissent. The protagonist, known as Konoko (voiced by Amanda Winn-Lee) and later revealed to be Mai Hasegawa, starts the game as a TCTF agent. As she uncovers hidden truths about her own history, she rebels against her former employers. Guided by a desire to understand her roots, she fights both the TCTF and the Syndicate, a massive criminal syndicate. In the final act, Konoko uncovers a Syndicate scheme to sabotage the Atmospheric Conversion Centers—vital air purification facilities that sustain most of humanity. She manages to stop the plan, saving a significant portion of the population.
