In the fourth entry of the Panzer Dragoon series, you take on the role of Orta, a young girl captured by the Empire. Amid a sudden assault, a mysterious dragon breaks through the prison camp, and Orta decides to mount it, vowing to bring down the Empire for good. As she journeys forward, she will uncover her true purpose and the secrets behind her new companion. For most of the game, you'll have limited control of the dragon, relying on quick reflexes to shoot enemies that swarm the skies. Orta serves as your primary weapon when you tap the fire button, but holding it down shifts the aim cursor, letting you unleash a powerful blast from the dragon in the direction of the cursor. With the press of a button, the dragon can transform into three distinct forms, each offering a unique combat style and special ability. A version of the original Panzer Dragoon is also included.
The Empire has reclaimed its dominance, harnessing ancient tech to create genetically modified, dragon-like weapons known as dragonmares. A young girl named Orta has spent her entire life confined in a tower within a secluded valley, held captive by the wandering Seekers, who believe she is a sign of impending catastrophe. One night, the Empire launches an assault on the valley with its dragonmares, devastating the city. Just as the dragonmares are about to strike Orta, a mysterious dragon appears and obliterates them. Orta escapes the valley on the dragon’s back. Evren, a high-ranking Imperial Army officer and commander of the dragonmare unit, gives chase. She is rescued by Abadd, a rogue imperial drone. He takes off, and Orta urges the dragon to follow. In her journey, Orta encounters Mobo, a carefree and impulsive member of the wormriders. Mobo guides her through a river valley and a desolate ash plain to the wormrider settlement. The imperial armada attacks the village, and Evren’s squadron confronts Orta, but she and the dragon overpower them. Evren’s dragonmare explodes, and Orta and the dragon plummet from the sky. The injured dragon carries Orta across a frozen wasteland until its wings heal. They repel an assault from a flying predator, but Orta feels guilt when she notices it has offspring. Abadd returns and exterminates the family with a laser barrage. He claims to know the truth about Orta’s origins. They descend into the remains of a tower and tap into Sestren, the ancient data network. Orta discovers a message from her mother, Azel, who explains she was created using DNA retrieved from a human in Sestren. Abadd reveals he has uncovered the secret of drone replication and plans to use Orta to reproduce endlessly and take over the world. Orta defeats Abadd’s digital form and learns he is heading for the Cradle, a colossal relic hovering over the imperial capital. She commands Sestren to transport her there. Orta and the dragon arrive at an imperial research complex. After eliminating multiple experiments, including dragonmare embryos, the facility collapses. They destroy an imperial defense system, and the Emperor perishes in the blast. The Cradle is freed, obliterating several imperial ships and causing the dragonmares to go into a frenzy. The wormriders, led by Mobo, assault the imperial fleet in the city, allowing Orta to head for the Cradle. After annihilating the final dragonmares and the Cradle’s outer shell, a cocoon-like object emerges from the core. The cocoon bursts open, revealing Abadd’s massive dragon, which Orta and the dragon defeat. The dragon, gravely injured, crashes to the ground and dies. With the war over, Orta walks toward the mountains with a tiny dragon cub. Iva's Story
