Plok


Summary
Plok is a side-scrolling platformer created by Software Creations and launched on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993. The game follows the classic platforming formula, featuring a protagonist named Plok.
Storyline
As ruler, Plok resides on Akrillic, a vast island in the fictional land of Polyesta. One morning, Plok awoke to find that his large square flag, mounted on a pole atop his house, had been stolen and set out to track it down. He sets sail from Akrillic to the nearby Cotton Island in hopes of recovering it. After mistakenly identifying several other flags, which only frustrates him more, Plok encounters the two giant creatures responsible for the confusion—the Bobbins Brothers. He reminds them of his grandfather’s warning about them and challenges the pair to a battle for the return of his flag. After defeating the Bobbins Brothers and reclaiming his flag, Plok returns to Akrillic. The next day, he discovers that the island has been overrun by fleas—irritating, medium-sized, blue, two-legged insects that constantly jump around. He soon realizes that the theft of his flag was a distraction meant to lure him away and leave Akrillic vulnerable to the flea invasion. To restore peace, Plok must travel across the island and eliminate every flea. Partway through his quest, Plok returns the flag to its rightful place on his rooftop and takes a moment to rest by the foot of a statue of his grandfather, Grandpappy Plok, hoping to find an item that might help him fight the pests. He falls asleep and has a strange dream about his grandfather’s search for an amulet 50 years ago. In the dream, Grandpappy embarks on a journey from his home to Legacy Island, where he faces the same kind of bizarre challenges Plok is now dealing with: strange obstacles, misleading artifacts like a vase, and a trio of Bobbins Brothers, including a third sibling named Irving. After defeating them, Grandpappy unearths the amulet and returns to Akrillic in triumph. Back in the present, Plok awakens to find the amulet hidden beneath the statue. With a new ability to transform into a saw, Plok continues his mission to reclaim his island. Plok travels through various locations on Akrillic, facing off against other creatures who also seek to take over the island: the magicians Penkinos, the giant spider Womack, and the massive humanoid rock creature Rockyfella. After defeating them and clearing the island of fleas while raising the flags, Plok descends into Brendammi Bog, where the source of the flea infestation lies—the Fleapit. There, he finds several surprises waiting for him as he rides through the area in various vehicles equipped with different weapons. Plok ventures deep into the Fleapit and ultimately confronts the massive insect responsible for hatching all the fleas and ruling over them—the Flea Queen. Plok defeats her with a can of bug spray and returns home to rest in a green chair, having saved the day.
