Summary
Pokémon Channel is a 2003 entry in the Pokémon franchise for the GameCube, created by Ambrella and released by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. The objective is to assist Professor Oak in improving and advertising his television network by watching shows alongside a Pikachu. The game blends elements from adventure, digital pet, and simulation genres. Players can roam through 3D environments, let Pikachu interact with other Pokémon, and gather a variety of items. The title was developed quickly as a follow-up to the Nintendo 64 game Hey You, Pikachu! and to support the Nintendo e-Reader peripheral, featuring a unique 3D texturing technique. It made its debut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2003 and was later promoted through a month-long event series in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. It launched on July 18, 2003, in Japan, December 1 in North America, and April 2, 2004, in Europe. In its first year in Japan, the game sold 66,373 units. It garnered mixed reactions, with most critiques pointing out its limited interactivity and repetitive audio, although some praised its collection mechanics and visual design.
