Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are 2014 reimaginings of the original 2002 Game Boy Advance role-playing games, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, incorporating elements from Pokémon Emerald as well. These titles belong to the sixth generation of the Pokémon gaming franchise.
The world and storyline of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire closely mirror those of the original Ruby and Sapphire games. The adventure begins with the player character riding in the back of a moving truck as they relocate from the Johto region to the Hoenn region with their mother, since their father, Norman, has been appointed as the leader of the Petalburg City Gym. Upon arrival, the family settles into their new home in Littleroot Town, a village located on the southern tip of the main island. The player's journey as a Pokémon Trainer kicks off when they rescue Professor Birch, the foremost expert in the Hoenn region, from an attack by a wild Poochyena, selecting one of three starter Pokémon—Treecko, Torchic, or Mudkip—to help fend it off. After successfully defending the professor, the player is given the chosen Pokémon as their partner. From there, the player embarks on a journey across Hoenn to complete the Pokédex and challenge each of the eight Gym Leaders in the region.
