Project Gotham Racing (PGR) is a racing game and the inaugural entry in its series, created by Bizarre Creations and released by Microsoft for the Xbox gaming console. As the first game in the franchise, Project Gotham Racing was an Xbox launch title that rapidly became the second highest-selling game on the platform, following Halo: Combat Evolved. PGR serves as a spiritual follow-up to the Sega Dreamcast title Metropolis Street Racer, after Sega shifted from hardware to software development by exiting the console market. As of July 12, 2010, PGR became compatible with the Xbox 360 via a downloadable update.
