Project X Zone is a crossover tactical RPG for the Nintendo 3DS, developed by Monolith Soft with support from Capcom and Red Entertainment, and published by Namco Bandai Games. As a sequel to the 2005 title Namco × Capcom, it brings together characters from Namco Bandai, Capcom, and Sega. The game launched in Japan on October 11, 2012, followed by a North American release on June 25, 2013, and a European debut on July 5, 2013. Upon release, the game earned mixed to positive feedback, with praise for its character roster, battle mechanics, and visual style, though some players found fault with its repetitive elements and convoluted narrative.
The year is 20XX AD. The world teeters in the midst of a silent upheaval. Beneath the surface of ordinary life, shadows creep. Distorted creatures slither unnoticed in the dark. Enigmatic gateways between dimensions link the familiar world to realms of wonder and terror. Over time, people have grown accustomed to these strange phenomena, accepting them as part of their daily existence—unaware of the hidden forces and individuals battling the real threats lurking in the shadows. The Kouryuji Estate—throughout history, one family has operated in secrecy, safeguarding the balance of the world. This tale begins with the disappearance of a priceless artifact known as the "Portalstone," long protected by the Kouryuji lineage. Mii Kouryuji turns to the private detective Kogoro Tenzai for help in recovering the stolen relic. Who took the stone? And what are their intentions? As the motives of individuals, factions, and otherworldly entities intertwine, the case spirals into a vast and complex conflict. The past, the future, and other dimensions become entangled in the unfolding drama. Thus, the journey of our heroes is about to begin.
