Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty (called Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty in Europe, Africa, and Australia) is a 2008 action-platformer created by Insomniac Games and released by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 3. It serves as the sixth primary entry in the Ratchet & Clank series and the second part of the Future storyline. The game picks up after the events of Tools of Destruction, where Clank was captured by the Zoni, and follows Ratchet as he embarks on a mission to rescue him. Because of its relatively short playtime of around three to four hours, it was priced lower than typical full-priced retail titles.
A year has passed since Ratchet and his companion Talwyn Apogee helped defeat Emperor Tachyon and watched as the Zoni took Clank during the events of *Tools of Destruction*. Now, the IRIS Supercomputer informs them that the only person who might know how to reach the Zoni is Captain Angstrom Darkwater, a famed space pirate. Determined to find answers, Ratchet and Talwyn travel to Merdegraw in the Drogol Sector, where Darkwater once lived. Sneaking onto a pirate ship above the Azorean Sea, they are quickly discovered and captured by Sprocket, Darkwater’s first mate, who shocks them by revealing that the captain has been dead for years. Just as they face execution, Rusty Pete arrives in disguise as Captain Romulus Slag—Ratchet’s old foe from *Tools of Destruction*—and instead orders them to be exiled to Hoolefar Island. While on the island, Ratchet has a fleeting vision of Clank surrounded by radiant energy before reuniting with Talwyn. They meet Mayor Barnabas Worley, who sends Ratchet to restore the island’s power by reactivating wind turbines. Worley then directs him to the radio operator, who needs a Versabolt from the Smuggler to complete urgent repairs. In gratitude for Ratchet’s help, Worley shares the secret of the Obsidian Eye, a powerful lorentzian telescope built by Darkwater to stay connected to the Zoni’s dimension. However, the Eye’s power source, the Fulcrum Star, was hidden by Darkwater just before he was killed in a mutiny led by Slag.
